Norfolk, VA (October 20, 2025) – Emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision that occurred Saturday morning inside the westbound lanes of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. The crash, reported just after 7:10 a.m., caused injuries and led to temporary closure of one of the region’s busiest transportation routes.
Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the confined tunnel environment to assist victims and manage the unique risks associated with an incident in such a setting. At least one person was transported to a local hospital for additional medical evaluation following on-site treatment. The total number of individuals injured and the extent of those injuries have not yet been released by officials.
Due to the location of the crash within the tunnel, traffic was brought to a standstill for a period of time. Emergency teams worked efficiently to secure the scene, remove the damaged vehicles, and assess the tunnel for any safety hazards before allowing traffic to resume. Westbound lanes were reopened once authorities determined conditions were safe for motorists.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials are reviewing possible factors such as driver speed, tunnel lighting, and merging activity that may have contributed to the incident. No names have been disclosed as of now, and further updates may be provided as the case develops.
We send our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full and swift recovery.
