Newport News, VA (October 9, 2025) – A Monday evening crash near the 28th Street overpass on Jefferson Avenue left one person seriously injured following a possible ejection from the vehicle, according to local emergency reports.
The accident occurred around 6:08 p.m. on October 6. Initial reports to dispatch indicated that a vehicle had struck a ramp, and the driver may have been thrown from the car. Police arrived first to secure the scene on the overpass near the Warwick Blvd side. Firefighters from Engine 1 and Ladder 2, along with medics from Unit 7, responded to assist with emergency care and scene stabilization.
According to early information, the male driver was traveling in the wrong direction on the ramp when the crash occurred. A witness suggested the driver may have been ejected upon impact, prompting a high-level emergency response. The individual sustained serious injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported for further medical care. No other vehicles were confirmed to be involved.
Traffic was diverted as officers shut down the overpass to allow emergency crews to conduct rescue efforts and begin the investigation. The cause of the crash remains under review, with authorities working to determine how the vehicle entered the ramp incorrectly. The area remained closed for several hours during cleanup and documentation.
