Bland County, VA (May 27, 2025) – A serious crash with reported injuries led to the shutdown of both northbound lanes on Interstate 77 in Bland County on May 26. The incident took place near mile marker 48.6, close to the Big Walker Mountain Tunnel’s northern portal, triggering a substantial emergency response and major traffic delays.
Reports from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) indicated that the crash occurred around 1:38 p.m. Emergency personnel arrived promptly to assist at the scene. At least one individual was reportedly injured and received medical attention, although the nature and extent of injuries remain undisclosed as of this update.
The closure of both lanes caused a significant traffic backup, with recovery and investigation efforts extending well into the afternoon. Motorists were advised to expect delays and to seek alternate routes if possible while authorities worked to clear the area and investigate the cause of the crash.
We extend our best wishes to all those injured and hope for their full recovery.
