Cape Charles, VA (October 4, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle crash on October 3 near the intersection of Lankford Highway (U.S. Route 13) and Wharf Road in Accomac left several people injured and caused a complete shutdown of the highway, according to reports from Accomack County Public Safety.
Emergency responders were dispatched shortly after 8:00 a.m. to handle the large-scale incident, which involved at least five individuals requiring medical attention. Four EMS teams were sent to the scene, with at least one patient transported to Riverside Hospital. Due to the number of injured individuals, additional transports were expected. Fire crews, law enforcement, and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) also responded, working together to secure the scene, assist victims, and direct traffic away from the affected stretch of highway.
Both directions of Lankford Hwy were closed near Wharf Rd while crews cleared the wreckage and tended to the injured. The complexity of the crash prompted coordination among multiple agencies, and incident command shifted as teams managed resources and scene operations. At this time, officials have not released details about the vehicles involved or the cause of the crash.
We send our heartfelt wishes for recovery to everyone injured in this major accident.
